Australian-Thai Chamber of Commerce (AustCham Thailand)

The Australian-Thai Chamber of Commerce (AustCham Thailand) was the first Australian Chamber to be formed in the ASEAN region. It was established in 1977 with the charter to promote business relations between Australia and Thailand.

The Chamber acts as a contact and information point for Australian businesses in Thailand, Australian businesses wishing to trade with or invest in Thailand and similarly for Thai enterprises interested in doing business with or in Australia.

AustCham Thailand aims to provide quality and constructive input into the formulation of policies impacting on business (both by the Thai and Australian Governments), and their administration, and to contribute to the development of relations between the two countries.

Thailand Board of Investment

The Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) is a government agency under the Office of the Prime Minister of Thailand with responsibility for bilateral investment promotion.

The BOI assists companies and investors in identifying business opportunities in Thailand by providing businesses with investment information, customised tax incentives, and connections to potential domestic partners and suppliers. The BOI has 16 overseas offices including an office in Sydney, Australia.

The BOI has the ability to grant tax and non-tax incentives to businesses under Thailand’s Investment Promotion Act. These incentives include:

Tax Incentives

  • Exemption of corporate income tax on the net profit and dividends derived from the promoted activity
  • A further 50 percent reduction of the corporate income tax
  • Exemption/reduction of import duties on machinery
  • Reduction of import duties for raw or essential materials
  • Exemption of import duties on materials imported for R&D purposes
  • Double deduction from the costs of transportation, electricity and water supply
  • Additional 25 percent deduction of the cost of installation or construction of facilities
  • Exemption of import duty on raw or essential materials imported for use in production for export

Non-Tax Incentives

  • Permit for foreign nationals to enter the Kingdom for the purpose of
    studying investment opportunities.
  • Permit to bring into the Kingdom skilled workers and experts to work in investment promoted activities
  • Permit to own land
  • Permit to take out or remit money abroad in foreign currency

In addition to providing investment incentives to businesses, the BOI also provides the folllowing services:

  • Provide advice and information on investment opportunities and rules & regulations on BOI investment promotion.
  • Link investors with government agencies & private sector to facilitate business operation such as company establishment and work permit application process.
  • Provide support on industrial linkage and sourcing of local suppliers.
  • Provides support on the identification of potential investors.
  • Provide services in identifying and recognition of foreign specialists or researchers in science and technology by BOI Strategic Talent Center (STC).
  • Provide counsel on overseas investment and provide training courses on overseas investment for Thai investors.

Department of International Trade Promotion

The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) is a government agency that assists international buyers in various aspects through our extensive global network. DTPI provide:

  • Information and insights on Thai products/services or Thai export industries
  • Business matching services
  • Facilitation to visit world-renowned international trade fairs in Thailand
  • Consultation on trade-related issues

DITP has a Thai Trade Centre in Sydney responsible for supporting bilateral trade opportunities.
